New Delhi:
An elephant who was pregnant died in Kerala, standing in the water, last Wednesday, after being confronted with one of the most brutal forms of animal abuse. She ate a pineapple filled with firecracker, which was given to her by some residents. The fruit exploded in his mouth, leading to the inevitable tragedy.
The incident was revealed after a forestry officer from Malappuram district in northern Kerala recounted the details of the horrible death on social media.
The wild elephant had left the forest, snaking through a nearby village in search of food. As she walked the streets, the locals offered her the pineapple laden with crackers.
“She trusted everyone. When the pineapple she ate exploded, she must have been shocked not by thinking about herself, but by the child she was going to give birth in 18 to 20 months “said forest officer Mohan Krishnan, who was part of the Rapid Response Team to Save the Elephant, wrote on Facebook.
The cracker explosion in his mouth was so powerful that his tongue and mouth were severely injured. The elephant was walking in the village, in burning pain and in hunger. She could not eat anything because of her injuries.
“She did not hurt a single human being even when she ran in burning pain through the streets of the village. She did not crush a single house. That is why I said that she was full of kindness, “Krishnan wrote in an emotional note in Malayalam, accompanied by photos of the elephant.
The elephant finally walked to the Velliyar river and stood there. The photos showed the elephant standing in the river with his mouth and his truck in the water, perhaps for unbearable pain relief. The forestry officer said that she had to do this to avoid flies and other insects on her wounds.
The forest authorities brought two captive elephants, called Surendran and Neelakanthan, to lead her out of the river. “But I think she had a sixth sense. She didn’t let us do anything,” wrote Mohan Krishnan.
After hours of attempts by authorities to save the elephant, she died at 4 p.m. on May 27, standing in the water.
The elephant was brought inside the forest in a truck, where the forest officials cremated it.
“She needs to say goodbye to her that she deserves. For that, we took the forest in a truck. She was lying there on firewood, in the ground where she played and grew up. The doctor who did her autopsy and told me that she was not alone. I could feel her sadness even if the expression on her face was not visible because of her mask. We cremated her in a pyre there We bowed down to her and paid our last respects, “said the forest officer.
