Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday exchange criticism over the pollution issue.
Pramod Sawant urged Mr. Kejriwal to focus on tackling pollution in the nation’s capital and not worry about Goa, drawing a swift response from Delhi’s chief minister, who said the problem must be treated collectively.
Kejriwal this week praised the people of Goa for their efforts to protect the environment and accused the state’s BJP government of clamping down on public protests.
The Delhi chief minister referred to a demonstration by various NGOs against three big projects.
Protesters also expressed concern over the decision to improve coal processing capacity in Goa.
Reacting to Kejriwal’s statements, Sawant told reporters on Wednesday that Delhi’s chief minister should be concerned about his city-state where pollution has become a major concern.
“I was in Delhi and just got back today. I saw how bad the air quality is (in Delhi). He (Kejriwal) should be concerned about his own area before he talks about Goa, ”Mr. Sawant said.
Shortly after Pramod Sawant’s reaction, Mr. Kejriwal tweeted @DrPramodPSawant that it was not the pollution of Delhis versus the pollution of Goas. Delhi and Goa are dear to me.
“We are all one country. We must all work together to ensure that there is no pollution in Delhi and Goa.
