On Friday, the Rajasthan Police Special Operations Group (SOG) arrested Sanjay Jain whose name surfaced in a viral audio recording of the lawmakers’ horse trade to overthrow the government of Congress led by Ashok Gehlot in Rajasthan, said an official.
“Jain was arrested following an interrogation in the FIR hosted on the basis of an audio recording that had gone viral on social networks,” said Ashok Rathore, additional managing director (ATS and SOG).
Jain was interrogated Thursday and Friday, after which the arrest was made, officials said.
Congressman Whip Mahesh Joshi had filed a complaint demanding an investigation and the registration of an FIR on charges of sedition against three people – Congressman Bhanwarlal Sharma, Gajendra Singh and Sanjay Jain – who were in Talking about a plot to overthrow the state government in just one of three audio recordings that went viral on social media on Thursday.
Congress chief Randeep Surjewala called Jain head of the BJP, an accusation denied by the party.
On Friday, the SOG had registered two FIRs under Articles 124-A of the IPC (sedition) and 120-B (conspiracy) to investigate the complaint about the deputies’ horse trade and the alleged audio recordings.
