Four people have been arrested for allegedly tricking more than 4,000 people by promising them jobs in the Centre’s flagship Ayushman Bharat program, officials said today.

The accused had created a fake website on the Internet that looked like the Ayushman Bharat government website and had placed advertisements for thousands of jobs. They billed aspirants Rs 300 to Rs 500 for registration fees, police said.

The National Health Authority, the agency that manages Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana’s health insurance plan, has filed a complaint with police alleging having received complaints from the public about an “unscrupulous agency” that portrayed a false association with the regime. .

The accused were identified as Umesh, 37, Rajat Singh, 33, Gaurav, 26, and Seema Rani Sharma, 33.

Anyesh Roy, assistant police commissioner (cyber cell), said the arrests were made on the basis of technical analysis while a laptop computer, four cell phones and ATM cards were recovered from the possession of the accused.

The fake website details were obtained and the associated payment gateway and bank account were analyzed during the investigation. “During interrogation, the defendants revealed that they had devised a conspiracy to deceive people on behalf of the government’s Ayushman regime. To do so, they first formed the Ayushman Yojana Trust and one of the accused Rajat Singh, a web designer, designed a website like a real government website, “said the official.

Police said further investigation was underway and efforts were being made to locate the remaining accused.
