New Delhi:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said this morning that pranayama – the practice of breathing control in yoga – can “help boost immunity” as he addressed the nation to mark International Yoga Day amidst a spike in coronavirus cases across the country.
“COVID-19 attacks our respiratory system. Pranayama helps us strengthen our respiratory system. There are different forms of pranayama,” said Prime Minister Modi today.
“Many coronavirus patients around the world benefit from it through yoga. It gives us the confidence to fight through difficult times and come out victorious. Yoga gives us physical strength and peace of mind”, a- he added.
For the first time since its establishment on June 21, 2015, coinciding with the summer solstice each year, Yoga Day has gone digital this year. The theme for this year is “Yoga at Home and Yoga for Families”.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah was among the first leaders this morning to tweet on International Yoga Day. “Yoga is a means of establishing harmony between body and mind, the thought process and work, humanity and nature … This precious gift from Indian culture to all humanity has received global acceptance through Modi ji’s efforts … The world has embraced yoga, “he tweeted.
