Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute this morning to Indian Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on the occasion of his 56th anniversary of death.
“Tribute to our Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Ji on the occasion of his death anniversary,” wrote Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the microblogging site Twitter.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the country’s longest serving Prime Minister, fought for India’s freedom from British rule. He was imprisoned several times during the freedom struggle. He became the first Prime Minister of independent India in 1947.
He was Prime Minister of the country from 1947 until his death on May 27, 1964.
