Speaking to the nation through his monthly radio show Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi explained how the new farm bills, which are the subject of nationwide protests from farmers and parties alike opposition, benefit farmers and help create an autonomous India.
In the 68th edition of Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Modi said that the strength and resilience of the country’s agricultural sector during the coronavirus pandemic was a reflection of its farmers, the “foundation of Atma Nirbhar Bharat”.
Farmers play a major role in the efforts to build an Aatmanirbhar Bharat. If they are strong, the country will be strong, he said.
In a tweet “Empowering hard-working Indian farmers,” the prime minister said the country’s farmers are now free to sell their produce to anyone, anywhere, not just the government through Agricultural Products Market Committees, or APMCs, now revoked.
“It’s their strength, and it’s the basis of their progress. They can now sell whatever they grow in their fields, not just fruits and vegetables, but wheat, rice, sugar cane, to whoever gives them the highest price ”, PM Modi m ‘ said.
He also spoke about India’s rich storytelling tradition and its significance amid the coronavirus pandemic. PM Modi has interacted with storytellers from across the country who bring his regional folk tales to life and use it as a means of educating children and healing the elderly.
“The world is going through big changes during the coronavirus pandemic, and maintaining social distancing has become important, stories are a great way to keep our families connected. As a family, make time to tell stories. It will be a wonderful experience. Likewise, shine a light on the stories of the great women and men who made India proud, ”the Prime Minister said.
In his previous speech on August 30, the Prime Minister declared that September would be considered “Nutrition Month”. He also called for Teaming Up for Toys, aiming to make India a hub for toy production.
Mann Ki Baat takes place on the last Sunday of each month.
