Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, in a statement today on the confrontation in Ladakh in which 20 soldiers were killed, said that the Prime Minister should “always be aware of the implications of his words” – an apparent reference to controversy over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comments. at a multi-stakeholder meeting on Friday.
The former Prime Minister also said that the Prime Minister and the government should “seize the opportunity to do justice to Colonel B. Santosh Babu and our jawans who made the ultimate sacrifice and resolutely defended our territorial integrity”.
Doing less “would be a historic betrayal of the faith of the people,” said Manmohan Singh, in his first response to the deadly June 15 confrontation in Galwan Valley.
“Right now, we are at a historic crossroads. The decisions and actions of our government will have a serious impact on how future generations see us. Those who lead us carry the weight of a solemn duty. And in our democracy, that responsibility rests with the Prime Minister must always be aware of the implications of his words and statements on the security of our nation as well as on strategic and territorial interests, “said Manmohan Singh.
Prime Minister Modi said on Friday during a multi-stakeholder meeting: “No one on our territory or any of our posts is captured.”
Congress seized the statement and wondered if the Prime Minister meant that Indian territory had been ceded to China. The Prime Minister’s Office said on Saturday that an attempt was underway to give a “malicious interpretation” to Prime Minister Modi’s words.
“The Prime Minister’s comments that there was no Chinese presence on our side of the BAC concerned the situation because of the bravery of our armed forces. The sacrifices of soldiers from the 16th Bihar Regiment thwarted the attempt to Chinese side to erect that day, “said the government.
Manmohan Singh said China has been shamelessly and illegally seeking to claim parts of Indian territory such as the Galwan Valley and Pangong Tso Lake by making multiple incursions since April. “We cannot and will not be intimidated by threats and intimidation nor allow a compromise with our territorial integrity. The Prime Minister cannot allow them to use his words as a justification for their position and must ensure that all organs of government are working together to tackle this crisis and prevent it from getting worse, “he said.
“It is a time when we must unite as a nation and be united in our response to this brazen threat. We remind the government that disinformation does not replace diplomacy or decisive leadership. but false statements, “said the Prime Minister twice, appearing to be referring to political leaders who praised Prime Minister Modi’s position at the all-party meeting.
