Aizawl:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured Mizoram’s chief minister, Zoramthanga, of all possible support for the Center after a 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck the northeastern state on Monday, damaging homes and roads.

“Talked to Prime Minister of Mizoram, Shri Zoramthanga Ji, about the situation following the earthquake there. Assured all possible support from the Center,” the prime minister tweeted.

The earthquake occurred at 4:10 a.m. and the epicenter was in Zokhawthar, in the district of Champhai, on the border between India and Myanmar.

The tremors were felt in several parts of the state, including the state capital Aizawl, said a state official.

Several houses and buildings in the Champhai district were partially damaged due to the earthquake, he said.

The earthquake also caused cracks on highways and roads in several places, he added.
