The earthquake occurred at 4:10 a.m. and the epicenter was in Zokhawthar, in the district of Champhai, on the border between India and Myanmar.
The tremors were felt in several parts of the state, including the state capital Aizawl, said a state official.
Several houses and buildings in the Champhai district were partially damaged due to the earthquake, he said.
The earthquake also caused cracks on highways and roads in several places, he added.
