The police pushed back several hundred people jostling to get their hands on a reduced PlayStation.

ORGEVAL, France:

French police pushed back several hundred people jostling to get their hands on PlayStation 4 at a reduced price during the launch of a new Lidl supermarket outside Paris on Wednesday.

The Orgeval store, west of Paris, had offered PS4 at 95 euros instead of the usual retail price of 299 euros. However, this withdrew the offer and delayed the opening of the store due to the size of the crowd.

Video footage showed a can of pepper spray released on the heads as the rowdy crowd climbed toward the glass doors at the entrance to the store. Moments later, people turned around, rubbing their eyes and stammering.

“The sale of PlayStation 4 is canceled and the devices have been returned to suppliers. Go home,” said a voice on a loudspeaker.

BFM TV quoted Lidl as saying that the launch had been postponed for security reasons.
