Jaipur:
Rajasthan congressmen spend weekends at luxury hotel in Jaipur with yoga, a movie screening and cooking classes, to unwind before a likely storm on Tuesday when a critical hearing will determine whether the chef rebel Sachin Pilot and 18 congressmen may be disqualified by the President.
In the visuals, MPs in t-shirts and casual pants are seen doing yoga on the expansive green lawns of Fairmont in Jaipur. None of them is wearing a mask in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many are seen sitting next to each other.
Some MPs who wanted to try new recipes are seen crowding around the executive chef of the five-star hotel as he guides them along a line of dishes. MPs said they had learned how to make pizza, pasta and buttercrumbs.
The 1960 epic hit “Mughal-e-Azam” was screened for deputies on Friday evening.
The weekend marks a slowdown in the hectic maneuvers that Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had taken to avoid a government collapse after Sachin Pilot decided to revolt against the party, with the support of a handful of loyal MPs .
The Rajasthan High Court on Friday gave rebel lawmakers time to respond to notices of disqualification for “anti-party activities”, which they challenged in court.
The 18 Congressional rebels, believed to be loyal to Sachin Pilot, are staying at two resorts in Manesar, near Delhi.
Congress suspended two of the rebels, alleging that they were filmed conspiring with the BJP against their own government.
On Friday, a Rajasthani police team landed in the two resorts in Manesar in an effort to arrest Bhanwar Lal Sharma who, according to Congress, is one of two deputies heard to discuss bribes of the BJP in a plot against the Ashok Gehlot government in Rajasthan.
The BJP has accused Congress of using defamation and illegal wiretapping in desperation. “Has the government tapped phones? You can’t tap phones without proper authorization. The court doesn’t accept such tapes. It’s like the Watergate scandal,” said BJP chief. in Rajasthan, Satish Poonia.
For Team Pilot, winning the legal battle is important. If rebel MPs are disqualified, the majority score will drop, making it easier for Ashok Gehlot to win a ground test. If the rebels can vote in the assembly, the government of Congress could fall.
Gehlot needs 101 MPs to vote for him in the 200 member assembly and says he has the support of 106 MPs.
