Actor Paresh Rawal is the new president of the National School of Dramatic Art, Culture Minister Prahlad Singh Patel announced Thursday. “Renowned artist Paresh Rawal has been appointed president of the National School of Dramatic Art by Rashtrapati Bhavan. Paresh Rawal, former parliamentarian of the BJP, is known for the versatility of his performances. Her breakout role was in the 1985 film Arjun. Mr. Rawal is also acclaimed for dramatic performances such as the lead role in 1993 Sardar, a biopic by Vallabhbahi Patel, and the comic revolves in the Hera Phericult movies and hits Andaz Apna Apna. Mr. Rawal’s theatrical career has mainly focused on Gujarati plays, many of which he collaborates with with his wife Swaroop Sampat.
Paresh rawal won the National Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1994 for the films Sir and Woh chokri. He received the Padma Shri.
The National School of Dramatic Arts counts among its alumni such notable talents as Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Irrfan Khan, Surekha Sikri, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Pankaj Kapur, Piyush Mishra, Pankaj Tripathi, Rohini Hattangadi and Neena Gupta.
