New Delhi:
The Aviation Accident Investigation Commission (AAIB) said Thursday it had formed a group of five to investigate the circumstances of a plane crash at Kozhikode Airport in Kerala last week in which 18 people were killed.
In a statement, the council said: “The lead investigator will complete his investigation and submit the report to AAIB, India, preferably within five months from the date of issuance of this order.”
Captain SS Chahar, former designated examiner on B737NG (aircraft), will be the lead investigator to investigate the circumstances of the crash on August 8.
He will be assisted by four other investigators, the AAIB said.
An Air India Express flight from Dubai with 190 people, including a crew of six, overshot the table runway when landing at Kozhikode Airport amid heavy rain on the evening of August 7.
The narrow-body B737 aircraft fell into a valley 35 feet below and shattered into pieces, killing 18 people, including the two pilots.
