Srinagar:
A drone carrying weapons near Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir was shot down by border security forces today, police said. An M4 rifle of American origin, two magazines and ammunition were recovered after shooting down the drone.
Police said it was a new attempt by Pakistani forces to drop weapons for terrorists on Union territory.
“This delivery was intended for a terrorist, Ali Bhai. The payload bore his name,” said a senior police officer.
“The drone is 8 feet wide from blade to blade and appears to have been controlled by a Pakistani picket in front of the Panesar BSF training station in the Kathua sector,” said the officer.
The drone was seen hovering in the sky by a BSF patrol at 5:10 am. BSF personnel fired nine shells at the drone which was flying 250 meters inside Indian territory.
Police said a few months ago that weapons of the same brand had been recovered from Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists killed near the Jammu area.
“These shameless acts by Pakistani agencies are aimed at arming Jaish terrorists active in Kashmir to commit terrorist acts and disturb peace and order,” said a police officer.
“Similar attempts to smuggle weapons were thwarted earlier in other border regions of Pakistan, particularly in the areas of Kupwara, Rajouri and Jammu,” he said.
