Jammu:
Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire on Saturday by using unprovoked fire at outposts and villages along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) in the districts of Poonch and Kathua of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
Indian border guards have responded appropriately to silence Pakistani firearms, and there have been no reports of casualties on the Indian side, officials said.
Around 8 p.m., a defense spokesperson said that the Pakistani military had initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing small arms and mortar shells along LoC in Kirni areas and Qasba in the Poonch district.
The Indian military responded and cross-border bombing continued after receiving the latest reports, he said.
Earlier, Pakistani rangers used shooting across the border at Karol Matrai and Chandwa along with the IB in Kathua district started around 12:45 p.m., resulting in effective retaliation by the border security forces (BSF), officials said.
They said that the exchange of fire between the two sides continued until 3:00 a.m.
Pakistani gunfire has caused panic among border workers who have been forced to stay overnight in underground bunkers for their safety, officials said.
