Islamabad:
Pakistan on Friday blocked social media app TikTok for failing to screen “immoral and indecent” content, the country’s telecommunications authority said in a statement.
“Given the number of complaints from different segments of society against the immoral and indecent content of the TikTok video sharing app, the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has issued instructions for blocking the app.” , said the statement confirming a previous Reuters report on the impending ban.
TikTok was not immediately available for comment on the matter.
The PTA said TikTok has been informed that the regulator is open to engagement and will reconsider its decision subject to a satisfactory mechanism by TikTok to moderate illegal content.
