India has reported 48,916 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 13,361,861, according to government data. The country also recorded 757 virus-related deaths during the period, according to data released by the Ministry of Health. With 31,358 deaths, India’s death toll is now the sixth in the world; the country is behind the United States, Brazil, Great Britain, Mexico and Italy. The recovery rate is 63.53% and the positivity rate is 11.62%. The largest number of samples was tested on Friday, with 420,898 samples taken.

  7. Odisha’s COVID-19 tally rose to 22,693 with a record 1,594 new cases on Friday. Ganjam district accounted for the maximum number of 732 new cases, followed by Khurda with 320 cases and Cuttack 136, according to the PTI news agency. At least 120 people have died from the virus.

  8. “With 864 cases per million and less than 21 deaths per million of our population, India has one of the lowest infection and death rates in the world,” the Minister of Health said on Friday.
