Coronavirus cases in India: The case fatality rate for COVID-19 is 1.48%. (File)

The number of COVID-19 cases in India rose to 85.91,730 with 38,073 infections reported in one day, while the number of people who recovered from the disease soared to 79,59,406, pushing the national cure rate at 92.64%, according to Union Health ministry data updated Tuesday.

The death toll from coronaviruses rose to 127,059 with 448 new deaths, data updated as of 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

The case fatality rate of COVID-19 is 1.48%. The number of active cases remained below 6 lakh for the twelfth consecutive day.

There are 5.05,265 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country to date, representing 5.88% of the total number of cases, according to the data.

US sets new record of over 200,000 COVID-19 cases in 24 hours: report

The United States largely surpassed its previous daily record for new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, adding 201,961 cases in 24 hours, according to the tally compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

The high number, in part due to delayed data over the weekend, brought the total number of cases in the United States to 10,238,243, with a total of 239,588 deaths, as of 8:30 p.m. (01:30 GMT).
