Washington:

The United States has recorded 382 coronavirus-related deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing its death toll to 115,729, according to a count Sunday by Johns Hopkins University.

This is the lowest 24-hour count in the United States since its peak in mid-April. It has averaged about 800 a day recently.

The world‘s largest economy is by far the country hardest hit by the pandemic, with both the highest number of deaths and the highest number of infections – 2,093,335 at 8:30 p.m. Sunday (00:30 GMT Monday), a tracker maintained by the Baltimore based university has shown.

But the country continues to register around 20,000 new cases of coronavirus every day and is struggling to descend from this plateau as infection rates fluctuate across the country.

President Donald Trump’s administration allows new outbreaks of coronavirus in some states, but insists that the economy will not shutdown if a second widespread wave occurs .
