Over 22,000 cases of coronavirus in India in 24 hours for the first time.

COVID-19 counts in India reached 6,48,315, with the largest single-day increase of 22,771 cases, according to the latest data from the Union’s Ministry of Health. The country also experienced 442 deaths during the period, bringing the total number of deaths to 18,655. The number of recoveries was 3.94.227. The recovery rate improved to reach 60.80%. There are currently 2,335,433 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country.

Maharashtra continues to remain the most affected state with more than 1,929,990 infections. The number of deaths from the pandemic has risen to 8,376 after 198 new deaths reported on Friday, according to a statement from the Department of Health.

Tamil Nadu, the second worst state affected by a coronavirus in the country, crossed the mark of a lakh on Friday when 4 329 people tested positive for the highly infectious virus in one day. With an addition of 64, the state’s death toll stood at 1,385, according to government data.

Delhi – which reported its largest single-day increase to date of 3,947 cases last week – has a total of COVID-19 of more than 94,000. To date, the nation’s capital has reported 2,923 deaths related to COVID-19.

More than 11,000 “Make In India” ventilators have been produced and shipped, of which 6,154 have been delivered to hospitals across the country, said Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan. “The Ministry of Health also supplies 1.02 lakh oxygen cylinders across India; 72,293 oxygen cylinders have been delivered,” he said.

Assam had the third fastest peak in the number of cases in the country, with Guwahati recording nearly 1,900 cases in just nine days. To date, the northeast state has had 9,799 cases. The Assam government has also adopted a new model to perform 10,000 COVID-19 tests daily in the city of Guwahati.

The new model, COVID-19 AG Test, will be a nasal swab test, said Minister of Health and Family Welfare Himanta Biswa Sarma.
