New Delhi:
India recorded its largest single-day increase in COVID-19 cases, recording 17,296 coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 4.90401 lakh while the number of deaths reached 15,301 , according to government data this morning. 407 deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours.
However, the recovery rate improved to 58.24%, according to figures from the Union’s Ministry of Health, with 2.85,637 patients recovering.
Maharashtra reported the highest number of cases, followed by Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and West Bengal.
Maharashtra recorded the highest overnight jump in COVID-19 cases with 4,841 new cases, bringing the number of state cases to 1,47,741. 192 deaths have been reported in recent 24 hours. Mumbai has reported 1365 new cases, the capital’s death toll is now 70,990. While the 4.69% mortality rate is a concern, what is comforting is that the recovery rate – number of patients who have successfully battled the disease – in Maharashtra and Mumbai is over 50 %.
Tamil Nadu – the state with the second highest number of coronavirus cases – has seen a one-day high of 3,509 people tested positive in the past 24 hours. Chennai accounts for nearly 2,000 of these new cases. The peak comes at a time when Chennai and Madurai are in total lockdown.
