The Manipur Congress issued a notice of justification to two of its deputies for allegedly cross-voting in favor of the BJP in last month’s Rajya Sabha election which saw the BJP win the sole state seat in the upper room. “You have deliberately violated and acted against the decision of the Indian National Congress (INC) by engaging in a cross vote for the BJP candidate in the recent Rajya Sabha election held on June 19 and this did not only violate the decision of our party to support our candidate, but is also detrimental to the maintenance of the principle of the party ”, indicates the opinion, a copy of which was shared with the media.

The two MPs were also said to have participated in the congratulations of the BJP candidate who won the election, held in the bungalow of the chief minister, added the opinion.

The two young party deputies had two weeks to respond to the notification.

Rajya Sabha’s polls in the state took place against the backdrop of high political drama. in Manipur’s 60-member legislature, eight MPs were disqualified by the speaker under the anti-defection law.

BJP candidate Leishemba Sanajaoba, the titular king of Manipur, won the only seat by securing 28 of the 52 votes in total and beating Congress candidate T Mangibabu.
