Hospitals in Bombay, Jaslok, Hinduja and Lilavati served notices of non-compliance (representation)

Mumbai:

Maharashtra Minister of Public Health Rajesh Tope said today justification notices have been served on four large private hospitals in the city for failing to comply with the rules for COVID-19 treatment and has put beware of strict action against hospitals that violate standards.

He said the notices had been served on hospitals in Bombay, Jaslok, Hinduja and Lilavati for failing to comply with the rules for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

Tope said he visited these four medical facilities following complaints that some private actors were not cooperating with patients after the state government took over 80% of the beds in private hospitals due to the COVID-19 crisis.

The state government has notified Bombay, Jaslok, Hinduja and Lilavati Hospital for failing to comply with rules regarding the treatment of COVID-19, the PTI news agency reported.

Strict measures will be taken against hospitals that do not follow government orders, tweeted Tope.

According to an official statement, Tope visited the hospitals late Monday evening after receiving complaints that some private hospitals were refusing beds or not mentioning any vacancies (beds) to patients.

He was accompanied by the CEO of the state health insurance company, Sudhakar Shinde, during the random visit, he added.

The statement said that at the Bombay hospital, a board displaying information on the availability of beds, as required by government standards, has not been put in place.

In some hospitals, state-funded rate tables for treating patients were not displayed, he added.

Tope took stock of the beds reserved in the four hospitals, the statement said.

The minister ordered hospitals not to refuse beds to patients, to provide them with timely care and to cooperate with the government to fight the crisis, he added.
