Nashik:
Onion prices rose in Nashik as supply was affected after rains damaged crops in several parts of the country.
The price of onions and other vegetables has increased because the farm supply chain has been severely affected by the rains. Many customers buy a smaller amount of onions than before.
“Rising onion prices are a major cause for concern during the pandemic, as many of us suffer from job losses and health problems. Onions are hard to afford,” a customer told ANI.
“The supply to the farms has been affected due to heavy rains which have caused onion prices to rise. This affects the trader as well as the consumer,” an onion trader told ANI.
Meanwhile, farmers justified the surge in prices by saying they had suffered heavy losses due to the wasted harvest.
“Our onions, soybeans and corn were wasted because of the rains. Farmers paid the price for their labor. The rise in onion prices was due to weather conditions and the events of the last few months,” said one farmer.
“I would like to advise consumers to look at the daily problems of the farmer. The citizens of the service class receive a fixed salary regardless of their monthly performance, while the farmers depend on variable factors like weather, transport, soil to grow their crops. Our crops have been damaged due to raining and the price hike is valid, ”another farmer told ANI.
