Bombay:
Hours after Maharashtra’s chief minister Uddhav Thackeray described himself as “firmly in the driver’s seat” in government, his deputy Ajit Pawar trolled him under the guise of birthday wishes. Ajit Pawar’s birthday message was accompanied by a photo of him at the wheel, with the Chief Minister on a shotgun.
“Best wishes to the Honorable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Chairman of Shiv Sena Party and Chief of Maha Vikas Aghadi, Uddhav Thackeray ji. I wish you a long and healthy life!” – Ajit Pawar, a leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) wrote.
The silent digging of the Chief Minister’s “flywheel” analogy has not gone unnoticed.
“Dada why this photo used to wish CM on her birthday, in which the steering is in your hand… is that some kind of hint,” was among many questions responding to the birthday tweet.
On Sunday, Uddhav Thackeray made the statement as a challenge to the opposition to try to dislodge his government.
Mr Thackeray, whose Shiv Sena linked last year to ideologically opposed parties, the NCP and Congress, said the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government benefits from the alliance.
“The future of my government is not in the hands of the opposition. The leadership is in my hands. A three-wheeler (auto-rickshaw) is a poor man’s vehicle. The other two are sitting behind,” a Thackeray said in an interview published Sunday in spokesman Shiv Sena “Saamana”, ahead of his 60th birthday.
“Why wait September-October as it is supposed to. Get rid of the government right now since you have fun overthrowing. Some people enjoy constructive work while others are happy in destruction. If you feel happy in the destruction, go ahead, “he said, referring to speculation that after other opposition-led states like Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, the government of Maharashtra could be in trouble.
In his beards at BJP, Mr Thackeray referred to his predecessor Devendra Fadnavis, who had previously likened the ruling coalition to a three-wheeler, an auto-rickshaw, and questioned its stability.
