Washington:
US President Donald Trump said he was happy with his chances of victory at the opening of election day on Tuesday, predicting he would record big wins in key states such as Florida and Arizona.
“We feel very good,” a hoarse-voiced Trump told Fox News in a phone interview.
Trump said he expected victory in all key states that would decide the election, but said he would not “play games” by declaring victory too soon.
“We think we’re winning Texas really big. We think we’re winning Florida really big. We think we’re winning Arizona really big,” he said.
“I think we’re going to do really well in North Carolina. I think we’re going to do well in Pennsylvania. We think we’re doing really well everywhere.”
Late in most opinion polls, Trump criticized Democratic opponent Joe Biden, the “biased” media and the “extreme” left as he repeated his argument for his re-election four years older in the White House.
“Joe Biden is not in prime time,” he said.
Trump called it “terrible” and “dangerous” that millions of votes sent in the mail were still not counted on Wednesday.
But he played down claims that he planned to declare victory prematurely on Tuesday night before enough votes were counted to determine the winner.
“I think we will have victory, but only when there is victory,” he said.
“There is no reason to play games.”
