Puri:
One day after the start of the annual Jagannath Yatra in Odisha, state police on Wednesday called on people to avoid going to Puri because “darshan” of deities is not allowed.
“Given the curfew in one part of Puri, all are urged to avoid traveling to Puri today. It is once again reaffirmed that Darshan of the Trinity for the faithful is NOT allowed” , tweeted Director General of Police (DGP) Odisha Abhay.
The administration also amended the ordinance that restricted vehicle traffic in the neighborhood on June 24.
Police issued a travel advisory Monday, June 22-24.
“The circulation of vehicles will not be authorized in the district of Puri from June 21 to June 22 at 2 p.m. on June 24, except for vehicles in government service, the police and the emergency services. All are asked to cooperate” , the police announced on Monday.
The district administration later changed the restrictions.
“This notice has been changed. Travel restrictions on Puri on the 24th have been removed, however, have placed certain restrictions on certain areas of the city of Puri,” said a statement from Puri administration.
