Washington, United States:
Former US President Barack Obama’s first appearance on Democratic candidate Joe Biden’s election track will be a “car rally” in Philadelphia on Wednesday, the Biden campaign reported.
Philadelphia, with a population of 1.6 million, is the largest city in Pennsylvania, a key state on the battlefield in the Nov. 3 election between Biden and President Donald Trump.
Obama, 59, “will organize a drive-thru car rally and encourage Pennsylvanians to make plans to vote early,” the Biden campaign said in a statement.
Democrats have urged voters to vote early in states that allow it due to the coronavirus pandemic and the potential for long lines on election day.
According to the US Elections Project at the University of Florida, more than 35 million Americans have already voted.
While Trump, 74, has held large campaign rallies across the country, Biden, 77, has chosen to hold smaller events due to the health crisis.
The drive-in rally, where supporters stay in their cars, has become a feature of the Biden campaign events.
Trump narrowly won Pennsylvania in 2016, but trails Biden in Keystone state by 3.8 points, according to a state poll average by the RealClearPolitics website.
Obama stayed on the sidelines in the Democratic presidential primaries, but endorsed his former vice president after winning the party nomination.
At the party convention in August, Obama urged voters to support Biden and said “our democracy” was at stake.
“(Biden) made me a better president,” Obama said. “He has the character and the experience to make us a better country.”
