Ballia:

Bairia BJP MP Surendra Singh said on Wednesday that he had yet to receive the show cause notice served on him by the party for his statements supporting a local party leader accused of murdering a man at an event attended by senior district and police officials in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. .

The MLA had come out in favor of Dhirendra Pratap Singh, who allegedly shot dead a 46-year-old man in Durjanpur village, Ballia district, following a row over the public allocation of ration shops on October 15.

Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh notified the MP on Monday and gave him a week to respond.

“I have not yet received the notice. I will give my response once I receive it,” Surendra Singh said Wednesday.

The MP for Bairia, who traveled to Lucknow on Sunday to meet with senior leaders, including state party leader Secretary General Sunil Bansal, said he also wanted to meet with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to a CB-CID investigation into the case.

“Since the chief minister is busy in the electoral tour, I could not meet him,” he said, adding that he had met other leaders on the matter without giving further details.

Lawmakers, however, expressed confidence that an FIR based on a complaint by the accused’s family will soon be filed in the incident.

Supporting the accused BJP leader, Bairia’s MLA said the former “opened fire in self-defense” because it was “a death or death situation for him”.

He also accused the administration of bias and demanded that action be taken against the other party.
