Calcutta:
There are no signs of reducing political violence in West Bengal, Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar said Thursday when cars from a convoy of BJP President Dilip Ghosh were damaged after stones were thrown at them in the district of Alipurduar, north of Bengal.
The governor, who is visiting the neighboring district of Cooch Behar, said an atmosphere of political violence and vendetta prevails in the state.
“There is no sign of decreasing political violence. The reason is that the officials have become political workers,” Dhankhar told reporters in Cooch Behar.
Mr Dhankhar, who is on a month-long visit to North Bengal, also alleged earlier that the police and bureaucracy were politicized in West Bengal and asked officials not to work as political officials.
Stones were thrown and black flags were shown to the BJP State President’s convoy by protesters near the Indo-Bhutanese border town of Jaigaon in Alipurduar district as he went to attend a program party. At least two of the cars in the convoy were damaged in the incident.
Several activists from Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) were seen there raising slogans against Ghosh.
