The Center has no proposal to abolish the Domestic Line Permit System (ILP) currently in effect in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram and Manipur, parliament informed on Sunday.
In a written response to a question from Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for the Interior G Kishan Reddy said that the ILP system came into being in 1873 with the enactment of the Eastern Border Regulation. of Bengal (BEFR).
“Currently it exists in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram and parts of Nagaland. There is no proposal from the Indian government to abolish the ILP system,” he said. .
Mr Reddy said the ILP system was imposed to preserve the culture and traditions of the tribes living in the area beyond the interior line, safeguard their title to the tribal lands and protect their resources.
