Bhopal:

Unlike Gujarat, no defection of congressional deputies will take place in Madhya Pradesh before the three-seat Rajya Sabha elections, party leader Digvijaya Singh said on Sunday.

In light of the resignations of 22 congressional deputies in March of this year, which led to the downfall of Kamal Nath’s government, Singh demanded tougher anti-defection law in the country.

Out of three Congress MPs resigning as members of the Gujarat Assembly in the final days before the June 19 elections in Rajya Sabha, Singh accused the ruling BJP of playing “money politics” “and to resort to” horse trading “.

“The BJP has made a lot of money and is involved in the horse trade policy, so it is hard to say that MPs are changing sides,” he said.

Singh said MPs who wanted to leave Congress did so in Madhya Pradesh.

“Those who decided to stay in the party have passed a tough test. So this (defection) is not going to happen in MP,” Singh said at a press conference.

In March of this year, 22 congressional deputies, led by former deputy Guna Jyotiraditya Scindia, had resigned and joined the BJP.

Commenting on Mr. Scindia’s defection, Mr. Singh said, “I used to tell Scindia that he will run the Congress in Madhya Pradesh for the next 25 years as Kamal Nath and I get older. But he was impatient and longed to become a minister in the Modi cabinet. “

Mr. Singh said that Mr. Scindia was like a son to him.

“His father (the late Madhavrao Scindia) had made his mark as a brave and honest leader in Congress,” he said.

Singh said that Congress has always treated Jyotiraditya Scindia with great respect.

“Priyanka Gandhi Vadra used to hold workers’ meetings at the Scindia residence. Rahul Gandhi had said that Scindia was the only person who could meet him at any time without an appointment. What was the need for him to leave the party after losing an election? (from Guna in 2019)? “Asked Mr. Singh.
