Patna:
JD (U) won the Hilsa Assembly seat in Bihar by just 12 votes, according to the Election Commission website, a result disputed by rival RJD.
According to the results updated on the Election Commission website Tuesday evening, Krishnamurari Sharan or Prem Mukhiya of JD (U) garnered 61,848 votes, while Atri Muni or Shakti Singh Yadav of RJD received 61,836 votes.
“Results declared,” the polling station wrote in the “status” column of Hilsa headquarters on Tuesday evening. And in the margin column, he wrote “12”.
Earlier, around 10 p.m., when the Election Commission website showed that the votes for Hilsa were still being counted, the RJD alleged unfair practices in the process.
“The returning officer declared RJD candidate Shakti Singh from the Hilsa Assembly constituency the winner by 547 votes. He was told to wait for the issuance of the victory certificate. But the returning officer receives a call from the residence of the chief minister and the officer suddenly says that the RJD candidate lost by 13 votes due to the cancellation of the postal ballots, “the party said in a tweet.
The Election Commission, however, denied that it was under any pressure from anyone.
According to poll panel data, Krishnamurari Sharan of JD (U) received 232 mail-in votes and Shakti Singh Yadav 233 of RJD.
