Kishanganj / Araria:
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday dismissed apprehensions within part of society that some people could be deported from the country if new citizenship laws are implemented, saying those- these were trying to “divide” society.
Mr Kumar made the claims when addressing rallies in the Muslim-dominated districts of Kishanganj and Araria, where voting will take place in the third and final phase on November 7.
“Who spreads disinformation through such”phaalatoo baat ‘‘(chat). No one has the courage to expel a citizen from the country, ”he said.
Earlier this year, amid fierce protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act and an Indian CNR, he argued that a nationwide implementation of the National Citizens Registry (NRC) was unnecessary and had no justification.
Speaking at the state legislature in January this year, Kumar said the NRC was an exercise limited to Assam under the deal signed by the Rajiv Gandhi government.
“A national NRC would be useless (koi zarurat nahin hai) and has no justification (koi auchitya nahin hai). We don’t think such a thing will happen. I think the Prime Minister also spoke clearly about this, ”he said.
Training weapons on his political opponents, without taking any names, Mr. Kumar said that “some people want to promote the struggle between castes and religious groups”.
Its barb appears to be directed against AIMIM and certain other opposition parties.
Mr Kumar said his government has always worked for all sections of society and promoted community harmony in the state.
