Amid forecasts of the monsoon reaching Bihar in a few days, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar stressed on Saturday the need to deal with the floods, which could follow the showers, without neglecting the measures in place to contain the spread of COVID- 19.

At a high-level meeting he chaired, Kumar ordered officials to arrange for those displaced by the floods to be resettled in camps without compromising standards of social distancing.

“I hope the floods do not ravage northern Bihar this year. But, we must be ready,” he told officials, referring to the natural calamity that is known to strike almost every year, often resulting in loss of life and property. on a large scale.

“I am pleased to learn that many of the tents that were put into service in the flood-affected districts last year are still in serviceable condition and that they were used during the shutdown period.

“However, we must keep in mind that this year, if the floods hit, people will have to be relocated while ensuring social distancing. We must take up the challenge,” said the Prime Minister.

Nearly a dozen districts in northern Bihar were devastated by flash floods last year, which followed torrential rains in the watersheds of Nepal.

Kumar reminded those responsible for waterlogging in many parts of the state capital in October last year after a three-day period of heavy rain that had reduced many localities from the city into the Maroon Islands, and called for efforts to ensure that citizens were not embarrassed this time.

He also noted the increase in COVID-19 cases in Bihar, where on average more than 100 new infections have been manifesting each day for some time, and told officials to focus on the implementation of more isolation centers for accommodation those tested positive until they are declared fit for home quarantine.
