Nitin Gadkari said that Indian companies have the capacity to take global companies.

New Delhi:

The rules that help Chinese businesses are out of date and should be revised in the national interest and for the benefit of Indian business, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Friday, supporting recent government measures that have sparked protests from Beijing.

A few days after the Minister of Road and Transport said that India would not allow Chinese companies to participate in road projects, including those through joint ventures, the Ministry of Energy said on Friday that Indian companies would need government authorization to import electrical power equipment and components from China.

Orders, as well as a ban on 59 leading Chinese apps, come amid growing military tensions between the two countries that culminated last month in a violent confrontation in Ladakh that left 20 soldiers dead .

Supporting the measures against China, Nitin Gadkari said that the aim was also to encourage Indian entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs who were excluded from government contracts due to prerequisites that required experience or financial support.

“Our rules were outdated. They set strict conditions for contractors. For example, for huge highways and bridges, we had conditions that only those who had experience with these big projects could apply. And in our country, nobody has done it before. So there was no Indian company to give these contracts to, “Gadkari told GalacticGaming in an interview.

“I told our employees that our rules were wrong. Even if the Indian entrepreneurs had the capacity, they had to create joint ventures because of their financial and technical qualifications. And given the current situation, it didn’t seem not fair to contract joint ventures with Chinese companies. It is in the interest of the nation, “he said.

The comments came on a day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi traveled to Ladakh to send a message to China about the military deadlock, and China said that artificial blocks to bilateral cooperation would hurt the interests of the India and that the two countries should work together to maintain peace in their border region.

Asked about the series of measures India has taken in recent weeks against China and the new Aatmanirbhar Bharat self-sufficiency program, Nitin Gadkari said the idea was to promote Indian businesses and small businesses.

“Do not connect Aatmanirbhar Bharat to China. We must increase our competitiveness in the world and for this we need low cost capital, we must improve our technology and our foreign investments in MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises ). We have all the technical capabilities, “he said.

“Two months ago, we had to import PPE (personal protective equipment) kits from China via special flights. Today, our MSMEs manufacture kits of such good quality and on such a scale that we produce 5 lakh kits per day. And I asked our Ministry of Commerce that our production is so high that we should allow ourselves to export it. So we send it all over the world, “said Gadkari.
