Netflix to release its first Tamil-language film, an anthology titled Paava Kadhaigal, the streamer announced Thursday.
Directors Gautham Menon, Sudha Kongara, Vetri Maaran and Vignesh Shivan came on board to explore how love, pride and honor influence complex relationships through four stories in the streamer’s upcoming project.
Anjali, Bhavani Sre, Gautham Menon, Hari, Kalidas Jayaram, Kalki Koechlin, Padam Kumar, Prakash Raj, Sai Pallavi, Shanthnu Bhagyaraj, Simran, among others, are part of the cast of the ensemble.

Menon, famous romantic dramas Minnale, its remake in hindi Rehnaa Hai Land Dil Mein and the national prize winner Vaaranam Aayiram, said he was delighted to collaborate with Kongara, Maaran and Shivan for the first time.
“Exploring a complex and difficult theme in a genuine and honest way alongside incredibly talented directors is a tremendous opportunity. The anthology reflects how pride, honor and social standing continue to influence individual choices around us. “, he said in a statement.
Kongara said that each story in this anthology explores unconventional, unfettered and unconditional love.
“It’s great that these incredible stories are reaching viewers in India and around the world with Netflix,” Tamil film director Irudhi Suttru, its Hindi version Saala Khadoos and Telugu take Guru said.
Maaran, known for his critically acclaimed films and national award winners like Aadukalam, Kaakka Muttai and Visaaranai, said he enjoyed working on the project because he was able to focus on telling the story he wanted.

Shivan said he’s always been a fan of Netflix and its storytelling.

The director has Naanum Rowdydhaan and Thaanaa Serndha Koottam to his credit. Paava Kadhaigal is produced by RSVP Movies by Ronnie Screwvala and Flying Unicorn Entertainment by Ashi Dua Sara, and will be released exclusively on Netflix in 190 countries.
