Kathmandu [Nepal]:
Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is expected to address the nation on Thursday as calls for his resignation from the posts of Prime Minister and co-chair of the ruling party are louder.
“Oli could speak to the nation today. The time is not yet set but preparations are underway. This will be decided after the cabinet meeting at noon,” said sources from the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.
Meanwhile, KP Sharma Oli traveled to Sheetal Niwas to meet President Bidhya Devi Bhandari today.
The former faction of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal in the ruling Nepalese Communist Party has raised the stakes against the KP Sharma Oli.
The Dahal faction held a meeting on Wednesday in Jhamsikhel, which, according to party leaders, was part of a larger plan to define a strategy against the KP Sharma Oli, the Kathmandu Post reported.
It is the first time that 31 of the 44 members of the Standing Committee have spoken out against PK Sharma Oli.
Senior leaders, including co-chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Madhav Nepal, Jhalanath Khanal and Bamdev Gautam, asked the Prime Minister to step down, citing his “ failure ” on various issues.
According to the Himalayan Times, Tuesday’s NCP Standing Committee meeting heated up as recent controversial KP Sharma Oli statements on India, among others, were put on the table for discussion.
Jhalanath Khanal said that the Prime Minister promoted the interests of factions in the party and worked only to meet his personal interests.
He said the KP Sharma Oli has failed to put solid policies and programs in place and has followed capitalist policies for the past three years, ignoring the goals of socialism to which his party was attached.
