Kathmandu:
On Wednesday, the Nepalese Opposition Congress strongly condemned the controversial statements by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Ayodhya and said that he had “lost the moral and political basis” to govern the country.
The party also asked for the official position of the ruling Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) and the government on Prime Minister’s remarks that Ayodhya lives in Birgunj and Lord Ram was born in Nepal.
In a statement, spokesman for the Nepalese Congress, Bishwo Prakash Sharma, said his party “strongly disagrees with the Prime Minister’s recent statements and behavior.”
He said that Prime Minister Oli has “lost the moral and political basis to govern” the country.
“Whether or not the Prime Minister’s statement is the government’s official position, it must be made clear,” he said.
“It is unfortunate that in these dark times, the Prime Minister’s responsibilities lie on one corner while his actions lie on the other,” he said.
“The NPC has the power to decide whether to completely change the Prime Minister’s thinking, working style, expression and actions or to change the Prime Minister himself,” said Sharma.
Oli is already facing strong opposition from his own party leaders who are demanding his resignation for his autocratic functioning and his previous anti-India statement.
“Prime Minister Oli has forgotten the practices, the Constitution and the sensitivity and management of government according to his whim,” Sharma said in the statement.
Nepalese Congress youth leader and member of the Kathmandu Parliament Gagan Thapa said that Prime Minister Oli had deliberately made the statement to save his chair at a time when an internal quarrel was taking place in the ruling party. “It is a deliberate attempt to save his chair by means of a political coup,” he tweeted.
Several senior Nepalese politicians from different parties criticized KP Oli for making “senseless and irrelevant” remarks and asked him to withdraw his controversial statement.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that the remarks made by Prime Minister Oli “are not related to any political subject and have no intention of harming the feelings and feelings of anyone” .
He further stressed that his remarks “were not intended to degrade the meaning of Ayodhya and the cultural value it carries”.
“As there have been several myths and references about Shri Ram and its associated places, the Prime Minister simply stressed the importance of continuing studies and research on the vast cultural geography that the Ramayana represents to obtain facts about Shri Ram, the Ramayana and the various places linked to this rich civilization, “the ministry said.
Former Nepalese Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai said: “Prime Minister Oli’s statements have crossed the line. The extremism is only creating trouble.”
Senior NCP official Bam Dev Gautam said Prime Minister Oli should withdraw his controversial remarks about Ayodhya.
“Such nonsensical and irrelevant remarks made by a high-ranking person will damage the prestige of the country,” said Bishnu Rijal, deputy head of the advertising committee of the ruling party.
