Kathmandu:

Cable TV providers in Nepal said that signals from Indian news channels, except for Doordarshan, had been cut in the country. However, no official order has been issued in this regard.

“We have cut the signals of the Indian channels from this evening,” Dhruba Sharma of Mega Max TV, a channel operator in Nepal, told ANI.

The decision by the multi-system operators of Nepal (MSO) comes hours after the former deputy prime minister and spokesman for the ruling Nepalese Communist Party (NCP), Narayan Kaji Shrestha, said that the Indian media should stop “baseless propaganda” against the government and the Prime Minister of Nepal. KP Sharma Oli.

Speaking to Twitter on Thursday, Shrestha expressed disbelief at the extent to which certain media channels have defamed the current government.

The move comes amid heightened tensions between India and Nepal after Kathmandu released a new map incorporating parts of Indian territory in May.
