Aurangabad:
A national-level Kabaddi player from Parbhani District, Maharashtra, who participated in the Khelo India tournament in 2019, achieved 100% marks on the SSC (Class X) exam.
Siddhi Sharma, a resident of Manvat Town in Parbhani of the Marathwada region, achieved this rare feat. The results of the Maharashtra Council High School Certificate (SSC) were announced on Wednesday.
Ms. Siddhi studies at Madhyamik Vidyalay in Devnandra, about eight km from her home. Her father, Deepak Sharma, earns a living doing maintenance work on solar equipment in a cooperative sector organization.
Speaking of his results, he said, “My daughter scored 100 percent on the SSC exam while maintaining a balance between sport and school.”
“I used to watch Pro Kabaddi matches on TV with Siddhi and slowly she developed an interest in the sport,” he added.
Ms. Siddhi said: “Playing Kabaddi helped me stay mentally and physically fit and took the stress out of studying.”
“My friends were nervous about the board exams, but my practicing for about four hours a day helped me avoid stress,” she added.
She said her parents and coaches supported her in both activities.
“I participated in tournaments even during class 10,” she said.
Speaking to PTI, winner and Shiv Chhatrapati trainer Mangal Pande said: “Marathwada is a place where sports infrastructure is poorly developed. Manvat is a rural place that lacks facilities. Despite this, the girl has reached Khelo India and other state competitions in just two years of practice. “
“Siddhi is a perfect example of how a balance can be struck between sport and school. Parents in rural areas should follow this example and encourage their children to play sports and coaches should continue to ask players about their studies, ”Mr. Pande, who is a treasurer of the Kabaddi State Association, added.
