Lucknow:
The body of a girl who went missing on September 26 in a village in the Kanpur Dehat district of Uttar Pradesh was reportedly found mutilated in a field. Two men – both relatives of the girl’s family – were arrested, police said.
The crime was reported amid outrage over the gang rape and murder of a 20-year-old woman in Hathras, UP, who was hastily cremated by police, away from members of her family.
The parents of the minor whose body was found alleged that she was raped before being murdered.
Police said they sent the body parts for an autopsy, adding that they were investigating the crime. The girl was from the listed caste community, as were the accused.
“The girl’s father said they had a land conflict and two men threatening them killed his underage daughter. We arrested them and question them,” Police Superintendent KK Chaudhari said in Kanpur Dehat. .
In the visuals, a large group of police are seen walking in a line toward a thicket on the edge of a barren field. There they find parts of the girl’s body scattered around. The girl’s family members are seen falling apart upon seeing the gruesome visuals.
Furious protests against the police and government were staged across the country, including one in the national capital of Delhi on Friday, where Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal made an appearance and demanded that the four defendants be executed.
The ruling BJP, which comes under pressure over its apparent failure to prevent horrific crimes against women – at least two other assaults and rapes have been reported by the state since the Hathras affair – had previously rejected protests by the opposition as a “political coup”. .
