COVID-19 recovery rate in India has exceeded 50% today, as the country recorded the highest jump in a day of 11,929 new infections in the past 24 hours, according to government data.

The recovery rate is currently 50.60%, which indicates that of all COVID-19 cases, half of them have recovered.

Although India registered more than 11,000 new infections for the second day in a row today, recoveries continued to outpace the increase in active cases. The number of active cases in the country is currently 1,49,348 while 1,622,378 patients have been cured of the highly contagious disease with 8,049 cures in one day, according to figures from the Ministry of Health.

With 311 deaths reported in the past 24 hours, the total number of deaths in the country has risen to 9,195.

According to the medical research organization ICMR, 1,514,322 samples have been tested in the past 24 hours. The total number of samples tested so far is 56.58,614.

Earlier today, Interior Minister Amit Shah met Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to discuss the pandemic in the nation’s capital. Mr. Shah – in several tweets – after the meeting, said that strengthening containment measures, increased testing and adequate preparation of health facilities in the city were discussed at the meeting.

The Interior Minister also said that Delhi will receive 500 railway cars to address the shortage of beds for coronavirus patients.

The national capital – one of the most affected by the coronavirus in the country – has so far recorded nearly 38,000 cases.

More than 70,000 new patients and more than 2,000 deaths were recorded in the country in one week, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Gujarat remaining the most affected states.
