At a time when the state’s health department faces a plasma crisis for the treatment of COVID-19 patients, 67 police officers in Assam, who have been cured of the coronavirus, have volunteered to donate plasma.
A plasma donation camp organized by the Assam police in collaboration with the state health department and the national health mission was held today at the GMCH auditorium in Guwahati.
Of a total of 67 staff, 43 were deemed eligible for plasma donation.
All these staff members were congratulated by Minister of State for Health Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister of State, Department of Health Pijush Hazarika, DGP Assam Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, Harmit Singh, ADGP (A) , MP Gupta, Police Commissioner Guwahati and other dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Himanta Biswa Sarma said Assam police are leading the fight against Covid-19 from the front lines.
“The Assam Police are committed to donating plasma for a worthy cause to save lives. The sacrifice and contribution of the police in Assam will be written in golden ink. They set an example by delivering medicine to the needy during the lockdown and also looking after the well. -being seniors living alone, ”he added.
Police Director General Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said it was a proud moment for the organization as all police personnel came forward voluntarily to donate plasma.
“The example set by the police personnel will not only raise the morale of the members of the organization who are still under treatment, but will also give a glimmer of hope to the people of the state,” said Mahanta.
As of Saturday, 1,631 Assam police have tested positive for COVID-19, of which 1,162 have recovered and four have died.
