The family members of many COVID-19 patients from Gandhi Hospital, who have been released by the authorities, refuse to take them home.
Dr Prabhakar Rao, nodal officer, Gandhi Hospital, said that there were “more than 50 patients, including men and women who tested positive for COVID-19” and underwent treatment at the hospital in the last 10 to 15 days.
“All are in good health and have no symptoms. We released them and declared them fit for home quarantine. But their family members refuse to take them home,” he said.
He said that many of these 50 patients waited outside the hospital for hours. “When no one from their family came to take them, we readmitted them to the hospital and provided them with beds to stay in. There are two age groups among these patients,” added Dr. Rao.
He said they kept the group in the highest age group at Gandhi Hospital and that the other group of people around the age of 50 was transferred to Nature Cure Hospital. “Their families also ask us to test to make sure they are negative. In this critical situation, it is not possible to do tests repeatedly,” he said.
Dr. Rao cited the case of a 93-year-old COVID-19 HIV-positive woman who was admitted to Gandhi hospital 15 days ago and is now in good health and able to get out of the hospital. hospital.
He said that her family members did not show up to take her to their home and that she was in the hospital.
In another case, an 85-year-old person, tested positive and admitted to Gandhi hospital 16 days ago, no longer has any symptoms and is suitable for home quarantine.
“But his family members refuse to take him home and request a new test,” said Dr. Rao.
Gandhi Hospital is the designated hub in Telangana to handle COVID-19 cases.
