Agartala:
Tripura has detected 223 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the state’s death toll to 2,892, said Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.
Of the new cases, 101 were detected among BSF staff, he said.
There are currently 1,114 active cases in the state, while 1,759 people have recovered.
So far, five people have died and 14 patients have migrated to other states.
Among the new cases, six people returned to the state by plane, said Deb on Sunday evening.
Thirty of them tested positive after coming into contact with COVID-19 patients and 179 were found positive in antigen tests, he said.
Only eight of the new patients have symptoms, he added.
The chief minister has said that in order to fight the pandemic, the government is focusing on testing, tracing and treatment.
“We are carrying out the maximum number of tests to ensure everyone’s safety, we have an adequate medical infrastructure to fight the pandemic. Ask everyone to cooperate and not to panic,” he tweeted.
The OSB said that all newly infected personnel were treated at the COVID hospital located at the state headquarters.
“Our hospital is well equipped to treat these patients. We have all the facilities. Salbagan has also been declared a containment area,” said a spokesperson for BSF.
“BSF staff return home on leave and return, and many staff are also transferred from outside. There is therefore a risk of infection,” he said.
The BSF guards the 856 km border between India and Bangladesh which falls in Tripura.
