New Delhi:
An innovative technology called the Electronic Vaccine Intelligence Network (eVIN) provided essential immunization services, the Union’s Health and Family Department said on Monday.
“The Electronic Vaccine Intelligence Network (eVIN) is an innovative technology solution to strengthen immunization supply chain systems across the country. This robust system has been used with the customization required during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure the continuity of essential immunization services and protect our children and pregnant mothers from vaccine-preventable diseases, ”the Department of Health said in a statement.
The eVIN aims to provide real-time information on vaccine stocks and flows, as well as storage temperatures across all points of the cold chain in the country, the ministry said.
“Currently, 23,507 cold chain points in 585 districts in 22 states and 2 UTs regularly use eVIN technology for efficient vaccine logistics management. Over 41,420 vaccine cold chain handlers have been introduced to digital record keeping by training them in eVIN. Almost 23,900 electronic temperature recorders have been installed on vaccine cold chain equipment for accurate examination of the temperature of stored vaccines, ”the ministry said.
“The Electronic Vaccine Intelligence Network has helped create a big data architecture that generates actionable analytics that drive data-driven decision making and planning, which helps maintain optimal vaccine stocks, resulting in cost savings. The availability of vaccines at all times has increased to 99% in most health centers, ”he adds.
The ministry added that an activity rate of over 99% reflected strong adoption of the technology in all health centers where eVIN is currently operational. While out-of-stock cases were reduced by 80%, the time needed to replenish stocks was also reduced by more than half, on average.
“This strong platform has the potential to be leveraged for any new vaccine, including the COVID-19 vaccine, as it becomes available,” the Department of Health said.
