Minister Singla said the messages released carry a photo of the Chief Minister of Punjab, Amarinder Singh, under the title “Captain Smartphone Distribution Scheme 2020”, as well as an online registration form.

“The question of whether the program can expand to others does not arise. Only students in public schools in grade 12 have received smartphones as part of the free smartphone system based on their enrollment,” a Singla said, with the exception of messages circulating on WhatsApp and other social media. platforms.

He added that the government has not launched any website for registration under the program.

Cheaters would suffer disastrous consequences under cybercrime prevention laws, Singla said, warning that clicking on such links could lead to phishing attacks, giving cybercriminals control over the device and financial information. people.

Mr Singla urged people to immediately delete these messages instead of passing them on to others.
