Washington:
The threat from the Chinese Communist Party is very real, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Wednesday, saying the Trump administration had started taking all the “right actions” to rebalance relations with Beijing in a way that protects. and secures freedom for Americans.
Pompeo also expressed hope that the Chinese will decide that their commitments under the phase one trade deal must be honored.
“I will wait and see if they fulfill their obligations there,” he noted.
“From a US national security perspective, the threat that President (Donald Trump) identified during his 2015 campaign against the Chinese Communist Party is very real. So we have started to take all the right steps to rebalance this relationship in a way that protects and guarantees the freedom of the American people, ”
Mr. Pompeo told Michael Knowles The Ben Shapiro Show in an interview.
“You saw it first from the trade administration. We had a set of deeply non-reciprocal business relationships where the Chinese Communist Party stole intellectual property, then turned around and sold it back to us, abandoned it with state-owned enterprises, led cyber theft to levels no other country can match today.
“A huge set of things that have destroyed jobs all over the United States because this intellectual property is the source of a lot of good jobs for American workers,” he said.
Claiming that Trump took this seriously, Mr Pompeo said his mission was to ensure that the next century remains a Western, democratic and freedom-loving century like this one, and not dominated by a role model the secretary General Xi Jinping, the head of the CCP, wants it.
Pompeo hoped China would comply with Part I of the Phase One trade deal.
“We hope there are places where we can work with China. We want good things for the Chinese people. What we are never going to sacrifice is US national security and US economic prosperity.” , he said.
In response to a question, Mr Pompeo said communist regimes tend to be unable to speak the truth at the most critical times.
“So even today they are denying access to places that need it so that we can determine who patient zero was, how this virus has moved around the world,” he said.
“We still have people with this virus, and the Chinese Communist – to this day, now let’s call it six and a half months after the time the Chinese Communist Party knew human-to-human transmission was possible, it still is. they will not allow a simple investigation into what happened, how it happened and, above all, to allow us to make sure that we can be reassured that it will not happen again, ”he said .
The coronavirus is not the first virus to come from China, he said.
