Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar assured Tuesday that strict action would be taken against the defendants who shot dead a 21-year-old student in Ballabhgarh, Faridabad in the state.
“The culprit of the incident in Ballabhgarh has been arrested. Strict measures will be taken against the culprit. No criminal will be spared,” Haryana’s chief minister told reporters in Hisar.
A final-year business student Nikita Tomar was gunned down in broad daylight Monday afternoon outside her college in Ballabhgarh, where she had gone to take an exam. The man who shot her was seen in video of the incident, captured on a CCTV outside the college, trying to push her into a car and when she tries to escape she is shot at close range.
After shooting Ms. Tomar, the assailant fled with his partner in the car. Meanwhile, the 21-year-old was rushed to hospital where she succumbed to her gunshot wound. Residents and the student’s family members also staged a protest.
Earlier today, police arrested assailant Touseef and his accomplice, Rehan, and took them into custody for two days.
According to ACP Ballabgarh Jaiveer Rathi, Touseef and Rehan were apparently waiting in a car for Nikita Tomar to get out of college.
“Nikita had come to the university for an exam. Accused, Touseef, whom she knew, tried to talk to her and then shot her,” he said.
Ms Nikita’s father said that the accused also used to disturb her before. “We complained earlier as well, because these people used to disturb her and now they have killed my daughter. My daughter went to sit for a college exam. fight, he shot him, ”he said.
Meanwhile, the woman’s body was handed over to her family in Faridabad on Tuesday.
